How to make it
- Preheat the oven to 175 C (350 F) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper; use unsalted, plain stock with no onion or garlic since those are not safe for dogs.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, rolled oats and bran cereal until evenly combined.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg, then stir in the peanut butter (make sure it is xylitol-free, as xylitol is toxic to dogs), vegetable oil and about half of the stock until smooth.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir, adding the remaining stock a little at a time, until a stiff dough forms that holds together without being sticky.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and roll it out to about 1 cm (1/4 inch) thick, then cut into shapes with a cookie cutter or into small squares with a knife.
- Arrange the biscuits on the prepared sheets and bake for 30 to 35 minutes until firm and lightly golden.
- Turn off the oven and leave the biscuits inside for another hour to dry out and harden, which keeps them crunchy and shelf-stable.
- Cool completely before serving, and store in an airtight container; offer as an occasional treat rather than a meal replacement.
