How to make it

  1. In a large bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg, and crumbled seasoning cube until evenly combined.
  2. Rub the chilled margarine into the flour mixture with your fingertips until it resembles coarse breadcrumbs, then add the cold water a little at a time and bring it together into a firm, smooth dough without overworking it.
  3. Wrap the dough and rest it in the refrigerator for 20 to 30 minutes while you cook the sausages in a pan until lightly browned on all sides, then let them cool.
  4. Preheat the oven to 190 C (375 F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  5. Roll the dough out on a floured surface to about 5 mm thick, cut it into rectangles large enough to wrap each sausage, then place a sausage on each piece and roll it up, sealing the seam with a little beaten egg.
  6. Arrange the rolls seam-side down on the tray, brush the tops with beaten egg, and prick each one once or twice with a fork to let steam escape.
  7. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until the pastry is golden and the sausages are fully cooked through to an internal temperature of at least 74 C (165 F), then cool slightly before serving.
