Beef Burgers with Onion

How to make it
- Heat 1 tablespoon of the oil in a small pan and gently fry half of the chopped onion until soft and golden, then let it cool slightly.
- In a bowl, combine the ground beef with the cooked onion, the egg, salt, and pepper, mixing gently with your hands until just bound together.
- Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a patty slightly wider than the buns, pressing a shallow dimple into the centre of each.
- Heat the remaining oil in a frying pan or griddle over medium-high heat until hot.
- Cook the patties for about 4 to 5 minutes per side, until well browned and cooked through to an internal temperature of at least 71 C (160 F).
- Lay a slice of cheese on each patty during the final minute so it melts, then remove from the heat.
- Lightly toast the buns, then build each burger with lettuce, tomato, the cheesy patty, a scatter of the remaining raw onion, and a spoon of ketchup before topping with the bun lid.
