How to make it
- In a large bowl, gently combine the ground beef, ground lamb, egg, rolled oats, minced garlic, dijon mustard, ground cumin, salt and pepper, mixing just until evenly blended without overworking the meat.
- Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty about 2 cm thick, pressing a shallow dimple into the center of each so they stay flat while cooking.
- Heat the grapeseed oil in a heavy skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- Cook the patties for about 4 to 5 minutes per side, flipping once, until well browned and cooked through to an internal temperature of 160 F (71 C).
- Lay a slice of cheddar on each patty during the last minute of cooking and cover loosely so it melts.
- Meanwhile, toast the cut sides of the buns in the same pan or under the broiler until lightly golden.
- Build each burger on a toasted bun with lettuce, tomato and onion to taste, and serve hot.
