How to make it

  1. Warm the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat, then add the finely chopped onion and cook for 5 minutes until softened and translucent.
  2. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to let it brown.
  3. Add the cooked ground beef along with the drained canned sliced mushrooms and stir to heat through for 2 to 3 minutes.
  4. Stir in the tomato paste and cook for 1 minute to deepen its flavor, then pour in the crushed tomatoes and scrape up any bits from the bottom of the pan.
  5. Add the dried oregano and dried basil, season with granulated salt and black pepper, and bring the sauce to a gentle simmer.
  6. Lower the heat and simmer uncovered for 25 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and the flavors meld.
  7. Taste and adjust the seasoning, then serve hot over cooked spaghetti.
